January Meeting with Peggy Venable

It’s January and time to start a new year!!
This month’s speaker will be Peggy Venable from the Texans for Education Opportunity, Ed Choice and the Texas Public Policy Foundation on school choice and educating citizens on Education Savings Accounts

Peggy has worked in public policy and grassroots campaigns – in government, the political arena and the private sector – for over 35 years and served as AFP-Texas director for 10 years.

Peggy created the Red Apple Project to focus on transparency and accountability in public education and to advocate for school choice.

Peggy was named to the University Star Hall of Fame at Texas State University and the national magazine Campaign and Elections named Venable as one of the top 25 Texas “influencers”. She has been named one of the top legislative influencers on Twitter.

A native Texan, Peggy spent 13 years in Washington, D.C. Peggy served as the first White House Liaison for the US Department of Education under Ronald Reagan. She was working at the Department of Education when the iconic study “A Nation At Risk” was underway. It was the country’s wake-up call that our education system was falling behind other developed countries.

She directed the “Take Pride in America” grassroots campaign, which encompassed eight federal agencies.

Peggy has served as senior staff at the Republican National Committee and was Director of the Republican National Convention in 1984.

Peggy has guest hosted for syndicated talk show hosts around Texas, appears as a guest on radio and TV, and has written over 100 pieces that have appeared in leading Texas newspapers, and speaks to groups around the state on tax, budget and regulatory issues. Her opinion pieces have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Fox News, Houston Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, Austin American Statesman, Budget and Tax News, Heritage Insider, and numerous other publications. She has won numerous public affairs and journalism awards.

Peggy formerly hosted the TV program The Beauty of Politics and later hosted Inside Texas Politics.

She has written education material, is a mother and former PTA officer and is proud Mom to five rescue animals.

Peggy served on the board for the Texas Center for Education Research as well as Austin CEO Foundation, and the Reagan Conservative Society. She is a past President of the Texas Women’s Alliance as well as past President of the Texas State University Foundation Board
